“WE CONNECT NOW” WAS CREATED IN  2008

ABOUT US:

Our Mission – We Connect Now is dedicated to uniting people interested in rights and issues affecting people with disabilities, with particular emphasis on college students and access to higher education and employment issues.

One of the goals of this site is to help college students with disabilities to succeed in their studies by getting the information and support they need, both through resources, links, blogs latest news, studying existing laws and regulation and through personal contacts. Through this website people can also share and read other people’s stories as a source of support and comfort. We also want people using our webpage to take action by writing blogs, hosting an event or becoming involved in politics by knowing about upcoming legislation.  Also, every month our webpage will focus on a particular disability or condition to bring our visitors more information and support related to our focus of the month. Through our jobs section, we also hope to help empower people with disabilities find employment through job posting and job searching tips, and  if people have any questions we encourage them to contact us. The goal of this site is that people leave it having gained knowledge, a support system and having taken action. We were founded in 2008.

Illinois State University

A group of students at Illinois State University organized a WCN club during the Spring semester of 2011 and have their own page in the Web at http://illinoisstate.collegiatelink.net/organization/we_connect_now
The group has also drafted and got approved its constitution.  Congratulations! Best of luck in the upcoming Fall 2011 Semester. BRAVO!

Hofstra University

A group of students created a We Connect Now Chapter in the Fall of 2010. We Connect Now at Hofstra University (“WCN”) is an organization that works in tandem with Career Services and Services for Students with Disabilities at Hofstra to provide students, both disabled and not, with a social environment in which to gain knowledge about job opportunities.  WCN is a relatively new club at Hofstra, and so, it’s members have a unique opportunity to shape the club to serve their needs.  WCN is looking forward to hosting CEOs from large corporations and other individuals whose lectures can provide Hofstra students with advice about resumes and applying for jobs.  WCN hopes to serve as a filter through which its members can understand and utilize all the benefits that the Career Center has to offer.

WCN has joined forces with Services for Students with Disabilities (SSD) and Career Services at Hofstra, and is working together with them for the encouragement, education and celebration of diversity by sponsoring an essay contest for PRIDE Week at Hofstra (March 7 – 11, 2011). Each student of the Hofstra Community will be able to compose a 200-300 word composition answering that very question and will have the opportunity to read their work in front of a podium during PRIDE week. SSD, Career Services and WCN will judge each essay and present the participants of the best three works with a Barnes and Nobles Gift card prize for the eloquence and excellence of their compositions. https://hofstra.collegiatelink.net/organization/weconnectnow

We congratulate the Hofstra University We Connect Now Chapter on their efforts.
